Structural Changes in Nuclear Envelopes during Elongation of Heart Muscle Cells

چکیده

It has recently been shown (1) that myocardial nuclei become longitudinally compressed during systole and extended during diastole . Myocardial nuclear length varies directly with the sarcomere length, and there is no slippage of sarcomere segments past the nuclear envelope . At sarcomere lengths corresponding to diastole the nuclear envelope is straight, but for every incremental decrease in sarcomere length a corresponding degree of envelope redundancy' is observed. Thus the nuclear envelope shows little elasticity at physiologic sarcomere lengths and is pulled taut at diastolic sarcomere lengths. In this communication, ultrastructural differences between the nuclear membranes of extended and contracted heart muscle cells are presented . These ultrastructural features may be the basis for functional differences .

Structural changes of cardiac tissue in response to L-carnitine supplementation during endurance training in Wistar male rats toxicated by steroid anabolic hormone

Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the structural changes of cardiac tissue in response to L-carnitine supplementation and endurance training in Wistar male rats toxicated by steroid anabolic hormone. Methods: 36 male Wistar rats aged 8-12 weeks (weight 195±7.94g) were randomly divided into six groups: Control, Non-treated, Boldenone (5 mg/kg), L-carnitine (100 mg pe...

Structural characterization of rat ventricular tissue exposed to the smoke of two types of waterpipe

Objective(s):this study focused on the effect of waterpipe smoke exposure toxicity on the structure of albino rat’s ventricular tissue and their recovery. Materials and Methods: Albino rats were divided into three groups: control, flavored, and unflavored. The control group was exposed to normal air while the flavored and unflavored groups were exposed to waterpipe smoke for a period of 90 days...

Nuclear Architecture and Epigenetics of Lineage Choice

Differentiation is an epigenetic process which is installed by changes of transcriptional programs over successive cellular divisions. A number of studies have reported the effects of biochemical modifications of chromatin (DNA and chromatin proteins) on the regulation of transcription. Although, these studies are able to explain how transcription of a given gene is regulated (toward activation...

Metformin Protects Against Radiation-Induced Heart Injury and Attenuates the Up-regulation of Dual Oxidase Genes Following Rat’s Chest Irradiation

Radiation-induced heart toxicity is one of the serious side effects after  a radiation disaster or radiotherapy for patients with chest cancers, leading to a reduction in the quality of life of the patients. Evidence has shown that infiltration of inflammatory cells plays a key role in the development of functional damages to the heart via chronic up-regulation of some pro-fibrotic and pro-infl...

Dynamic and Polarized Muscle Cell Behaviors Accompany Tail Morphogenesis in the Ascidian Ciona intestinalis

BACKGROUND Axial elongation is a key morphogenetic process that serves to shape developing organisms. Tail extension in the ascidian larva represents a striking example of this process, wherein paraxially positioned muscle cells undergo elongation and differentiation independent of the segmentation process that characterizes the formation of paraxial mesoderm in vertebrates. Investigating the c...
